Week 2 Preview: Lopers Return to Colorado

Kearney, Neb. – The 6th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team returns to RMAC territory this weekend to take part in the Steel & Silver Classic in Pueblo and Colorado Springs.

The Lopers (4-0) will spend Friday and Saturday afternoon in Pueblo taking on the CSUP Thunderwolves (3-2), Adams State Grizzlies (2-2) and St. Martin's, Wash., Saints (1-6) before driving up I-25 to face the UCCS Mountain Lions (0-4) on Saturday night.

Check the UNK volleyball schedule page for match times, live stat and video links.

Last year, the Lopers took part in the Premier Challenge in Denver, facing rival Metro State. These will be the first matches against RMAC-members Pueblo, Adams and UCCS since UNK left the league after the 2011 season.

Kearney enters the weekend with some super offensive numbers, hitting .350 and recording and even 16.00 kills per set. Right side Kelle Carver (3.67) and outsides Kinslie TeKolste (3.17) and Liz McGowan (3.00) currently pace the UNK offense with three others averaging a kill per set.

Defensively, McGowan (4.58) has dug up everything thrown at her. Her career total of 1,644 isn't too far behind Angie Usher's career record of 2,058. At the net, Carver (0.83) has five solo and five assisted blocks with junior setter Erin Seele (three) and sophomore middle Bailey Sokolowski (two) both having more than one solo stuff.

Finally, in the serve game, UNK has 12 aces to just five reception errors. The opposition has also recorded 20 service errors.

Among the other teams, Pueblo's Perez Mariangel is at 3.23 kills and 3.50 digs per set to go along with nine aces. She previously was at Iowa Western C.C.

Junior outside Lindsey Stindt (3.33) leads Adams with sophomore Jessica Riddle averaging 4.38 digs per set for St. Martin's. Finally, junior Kim Catlett of UCCS averages a gaudy 4.63 kills and 3.63 digs per set.

UNK has a quick turnaround as Fort Hays State stops by Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
