Kearney, Neb. – The 3
rd-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team needed just over an hour to beat the Midland University Warriors,
48-3, Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.
The Lopers move to the .500 mark (6-6) while MU, ranked 8th in the NAIA, drops to 2-6.
UNK already had a 12-0 lead as the Warriors forfeited at 133 and 141 lbs. Kearney then recorded five falls and two decisions to finish the scoring.
At 149 lbs., seventh-ranked
Destin McCauley (North Sioux City, S.D.) was his usual busy self in the first period, having three takedowns and three near fall points before pinning Tyler Willis at 1:21.
Junior
Connor Bolling (Central City) started the evening with two takedowns and then pinning his Warrior opponent at 2:19. True freshman
Brady Radik (Gretna), filling in for top-ranked
Romero Cotton at 197 lbs., had a first period fall as well.
The other Loper falls were by juniors
Leandro Arias (157 lbs.) and
Devin Aguirre (165 lbs.). Arias was leading 1-0 while Aguirre was poised for a major decision before a fall at 5:44.
Finally, Oklahoma junior
Casey Powell used two first period takedowns to hold off eighth-ranked Sterling Terry, 6-5, at 184 lbs. while Texas redshirt freshman
Ivan DeLeon got a takedown with seven seconds left in the second period to win 4-2.
UNK's last four duals are all on the road, starting Friday night at 10th-ranked Lindenwood.
