Kearney, Neb. – The 9th-ranked Lindenwood wrestling team won the last five weight matches to beat No. 6 Nebraska Kearney,
33-6, Friday night in St. Charles, Mo.
The Lions improve to 9-4 (2-0) while UNK falls to 6-7 (2-1). This is the Lopers first MIAA setback since a January 2013 loss at Central Oklahoma.
Kearney didn't use top-ranked
Daniel DeShazer (133 lbs.) or
Romero Cotton (197 lbs.) in the dual. UNK did get off to a good start as Central City junior
Connor Bolling upset sixth-ranked Marcus Tamayo by a 6-1 score.
For the first time since early January, fourth-ranked
Chase White (Lincoln H.S.) took to the mats, earning a 5-4 win over Derrick Weller at 157 lbs. However, that was the Blue & Gold's last win of the night.
The Lions managed an OT win at 285 lbs., a fall at 184 lbs. and an injury default at 174 lbs.
UNK is at Newman University on Sunday afternoon.
