Kearney, Neb. – The 3rd-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team will face nationally-ranked Division I foes Bucknell (Pa.) and Old Dominion (Va.) this Friday at the 35
th Annual Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va.
This is the second year UNK has been invited to take part in the Duals; the Lopers are the only non-Division I school in the 16-team "National College" Tournament bracket.
The format this year features four pools. After pool competition, based on results, each school will have two duals Saturday in either the Gold, Silver or Bronze brackets.
UNK is slotted in the "York River" Pool. The Lopers face the 25th-ranked Bucknell Bison Friday at 8:00 a.m. Central and then the 24
th-ranked ODU Monarchs at 10:00 a.m. Central. Bucknell and ODU wrestle at 12:00 p.m. Central.
In latest NWCA/USA Today Top 25 Poll, besides BU and ODU, Virginia Tech is ranked 6th, Edinboro (Pa.) is 10th, Virginia is 16th and Rider (N.J.) is 17th.
Last year in this tournament, the Lopers beat George Mason (Va.) and Bloomsburg (Pa.) while falling to Arizona State, Tennessee-Chatanooga and Virginia Tech.
Kearney's lineup is more set than last year at this time with four nationally-ranked individuals ---
Daniel DeShazer (1st/133 lbs.),
Destin McCauley (7th/149 lbs.),
Chase White (4th/157 lbs.) and
Romero Cotton (1st/197 lbs.) – set to travel to Hampton.
