Kearney, Neb. – The 3rd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team rolled past York College, 43-10, and edged Chadron State, 20-18, Friday night in Ogallala.
The duals was part of the "
Clash at Lake Mac" and also featured York against Chadron and high school teams from Sidney, Sutherland and Ogallala.
Competing in their first December duals in six years, UNK had eight bonus point wins to easily beat the Panthers. Senior
Connor Bolling (Central City) started the night in style with a first period tech fall, 16-1, at 125 lbs.
This was the four-year starter's 100th career win, making him the 15th Loper in that club.
Top-ranked
Daniel DeShazer (133 lbs.), who reached 100 wins earlier this month in Las Vegas, had a first period fall to quickly make it 11-0. After the day, he's up to 104 wins, moving him past Andy Sistek ('02) and Keenan McCurdy ('09).
Later, senior
Chase White (Lincoln) and sophomore
Chance Bila (Chadron) had falls with redshirt freshman
Corey Van Dorn (Orange Park, Fla.), bumping up to heavyweight, winning 10-0.
Against the Eagles, UNK got decisions from four seniors -- Bolling, DeShazer,
Ryan Bauer (141 lbs.) and White -- to lead 12-6. Chadron made things close thanks to a forfeit win and by picking up six points due to injury default in the heavyweight match.
At 184 lbs., redshirt freshman Mike Lambert (Fremont) had takedowns in the first and third periods to win 6-3 and give UNK a 15-12 lead. Senior
Romero Cotton (Hutchinson, Kans.) then salted things away with a 19-0 tech fall at 197 lbs. To reach his point total, he managed 10 near fall points.
UNK is now off until January 1st when it duals Midland in Fremont.
