Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team swept doubles and won three singles matches in straight sets to beat Central Oklahoma, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at Harmon Park.
UNK improves to 9-1 (1-0) while the Bronchos fall to 3-5 (1-1). Both teams came in ranked in the Central Region top 10.
Playing a rare March dual in Kearney, the Lopers got out to a commanding 3-0 lead as they took each doubles match, the final two by 8-2 margins. In 10 duals this year, UNK is now 26-4 in doubles.
While ninth-ranked Alina Gorina beat 13th-ranked
Kristin Weems (Arlington, Texas) at No. 1 singles, UNK took four of the other five matchups. The Lopers secured the dual win after victories from junior
Paula Jimenez (No. 3) and sophomore Stefhani Rodriguez (No. 2).
Jimenez (Spain) improves to a team-best 8-1 in singles with Rodriguez (Venezuela) close behind with an 8-2 mark.
The Lopers weekend isn't done as they've added a match with Division III Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) tomorrow in Omaha.
