Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team won two close doubles matches to get by Division III Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.),
7-2, Sunday in Omaha.
This match was added to the Lopers (10-1) scheduled late this week. The Gusties, ranked in their region, fall to 4-8.
In 11 duals this season, UNK is now 29-4 in doubles after sweeping all three matches against the Gusties. However, it wasn't easy as sophomores
Emily Fink (Elkhorn South H.S.) and
Sthefani Rodriguez (Venezuela) managed a 9-8 (5) win in the top spot with senior
Kari Emery (Tucson, Ariz.) and freshman
Emma Neil (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) winning 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
In the second position, senior
Kristin Weems (Arlington, Texas) and junior
Paula Jimenez (Spain) improved to a team-best 10-1 thanks to a 8-3 victory.
The Lopers secured the dual win after Jimenez (6-3, 6-4) and Fink (6-4, 6-2) won in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
UNK hosts Northeastern State next Friday at Harmon Park. Last spring, the RiverHawks beat the Lopers, 5-1, in the NCAA Tournament.
