Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Three different players tallied a goal as the Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team rolled past Wayne State, 4-1, Thursday night in Wayne.
UNK improves to 1-0-2 while the Wildcats fall to 0-1-2.
Looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to WSC last year at home, UNK found gold 19 minutes in as senior
Montanna Hosterman (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) banged one in from 25 yards out. This marks her 15th career goal, second most in school history behind Becka Talcott (17).
Just nine minutes later, Norfolk junior
Evie Sintek tallied her first career goal as she took a pass from newcomer
Reina Horikawa (Japan) on the right side and scored from 10 yards.
Up 2-0 at the intermission, the Lopers extended its lead to three in the 75th minute when Sintek took a pass from senior
Ashtin Pawloski (Hastings) in the center box and scored from about eight yards out. Sintek is just the third Loper to score twice in a game, joining Hosterman (three times), Morgan Abert and Mcinzie Rieber.
Finally, with a second to go, Horikawa managed to find the back of the net after the ball was deflected out of the box after her own corner.
Twenty-one different Lopers played and each logged at least 30 minutes. In goal, freshman
Ali Hirschman (Papillion-LaVista) earned her first collegiate win by stopping two shots in the first half.
"A well deserved win for our team tonight. It was a total team effort; everyone contribued and it feels good to score four goals," said UNK head coach
John Maessner. "After working extremely hard this preseason and making big strides from where we were last year, we're proud of the progress we're making. We play Augustana on Sunday and that will be a good test."
UNK is at Augustana on Saturday morning.
