Kearney, Neb. – The 5th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team used four falls to fly past the Newman (Kan.) Jets,
40-9, Saturday night in Cushing Coliseum.
The Lopers improve to 13-2 and are the only MIAA team with a 4-0 mark in league action.
The night started with a nationally-ranked matchup between NU's Dustin Reed and Central City senior
Connor Bolling. The second-ranked Reed had two takedowns in the first and third periods to win by seven, 12-5.
To say the Jets lead didn't last long would be an understatement as UNK responded with three straight falls, encompassing a total of 3:48 mat time. Later, top-ranked
Romero Cotton (197 lbs.) recorded a first period fall, his seventh of the year.
In between the pins, Kansas junior
Calvin Ochs used three takedowns and built up enough riding time to post a 9-1 major at 174 pounds with fifth-ranked senior
Chase White (157 lbs.) having three takedowns in a 6-1 victory.
UNK hosts 10th-ranked Lindenwood next Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Health & Sports Center.
