Lopers Sixth at National Duals

Kearney, Neb. – The 3rd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team beat 9th-ranked Lake Erie College, 25-13, and fell to Upper Iowa, 21-20, Saturday at the 2016 Cliff Keen NWCA National Duals in Ft. Wayne, Ind.

The Lopers ended the weekend 3-2 to finish in sixth place. They are now 6-2 in duals on the season.

Against the Storm from Painesville, Ohio, UNK gout out to a 13-0 lead, highlighted by a 19-5 major decision from Illinois sophomore Keith Surber (141 lbs.).

At 157 lbs., seventh-ranked Chase White (Lincoln H.S.) upset fifth-ranked Chris Baughman, 6-4, as he scored four points in the final period.

Lake Erie turned the tables at 197 pounds as Evan Rosborough recorded a takedown in overtime to beat top-ranked Romero Cotton, 7-5. Last year, Rosborough lost to Cotton by a 7-3 score in the first round of the NCAA Championships.

Today, Cotton had a first period takedown and used riding time to tie things at five. Rosborough managed to record his winning takedown at the 49 second mark.

Dalton Westerlund started the UIU comeback with a first period fall at 184 lbs.

After recording six more points due to UNK forfeiting at 197 lbs., heavyweight Avery Jacobs trailed 2-1 but recoded a first period fall to score the 21st point for the Peacocks.

Overall, Surber led Kearney over the two days, going a perfect 5-0. Next, Kansas newcomer Calvin Ochs was 4-0 with Central City Connor Bolling and DeShazer 4-1.
