Lopers Face D1 Wolverines & Panthers

True frosh Vlad Kazakov
Kearney, Neb.  – The sixth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team will get a rare crack at Division I opponents in a dual setting when it faces Utah Valley and 23rd-ranked Northern Iowa Friday in Cedar Falls.

The dual against the UVU Wolverines begins at 4:00 p.m. with the tilt against the UNI Panthers starting approximately at 5:45 p.m. Live results and live video are available.

UNK normally doesn't begin its dual season until late December or early January. So, these are believed to be some of the earliest duals in school history. With the early start, Kearney's lineup won't include returning All-Americans Keith Surber (141 lbs.) and Calvin Ochs (174 lbs.), among others.

Since 2000, the Lopers have beaten five D1 schools in duals; Northwestern (2002), Portland State (2006), Wyoming (2007) and George Mason (Va.) and Bloomsburg (Pa.) in 2014. Back in the 2002-03 season, UNK fell to then-Utah Valley State, 24-19, at the Lone Star Duals in Texas.

Below are the probable lineups for all three teams. The Lopers will remain in Iowa for the annual Harold Nichols Cyclone Open Sunday in Ames.
