Lopers Beat MIAA Foe

Mohab El Zanaty
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams swept the Lindenwood Lions, 7-2 (men) and 6-1 (women), Friday in Grand Island.

The MIAA dual was originally set for Saturday in Kearney but moved up a day and inside due to weather.

The 21st-ranked men (16-2, 2-2) evened their MIAA record as they won six of the seven singles matches.

Spanish freshman Alvaro Arias got by Lion veteran Filip Bogic (6-3, 3-6, 10-7) at the top of the order with Egyptian junior Mohab El Zanaty also winning in three sets (6-2, 6-7, 10-4). He is now 14-4 on the season.

With the loss, Lindenwood falls to 5-11 (0-4).

On the women's side, UNK (14-4, 6-2) took all three doubles matches to take a commanding lead. The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Jadyn Trimble (Kearney H.S.) and freshman Camryn Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) rallied for an impressive 9-7 victory. They are now 6-4 as a team.

In singles, two matches weren't played with UNK sweeping No. 2-4 to secure the dual. That trio included Papillion sophomore Emma Neil, now 17-1 after a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles. Lindenwood drops to 9-8 (4-4) with the setback.

UNK hosts the Concordia Bulldogs Wednesday night at Harmon Park. A day earlier, the Loper women host Fort Hays State at 1:00 p.m. .
