Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team remains on the road this weekend with games at No. 2 Central Missouri and Lindenwood.
The game Friday against UCM (7-0) begins at 7:00 p.m. with Sunday's title at LWU (4-2-1) kicking off at 1:30 p.m. Live stats and a live video stream are available for both games; check the Loper
schedule page for exact media links.
The Jennies, six-time defending MIAA champions, are off to another solid start as they've outscored the competition 17-0. Nationally, they rank only being three-time defending national champ Grand Valley State (Mich.) in the Top 25 poll.
Offensively, an even attack features three players at six points apiece. The trio includes junior Baylie Edwards, sophomore Jada Scott and true freshman Alex Harms. As a team, UCM has taken twice as many shots as its opponent, 120-56, while having a big advantage in corners, 50-18.
Next, junior keeper Ana Dilkes is a two-time All-American. She has six solo shut outs to date, made 23 saves and has a perfect 0.0 GAA. Last year in Kearney, Dilkes made one save as UCM scored in the 65th and 70th minutes to post a 3-0 win.
The Lions, who host Fort Hays State Friday night, are just 1-2 at home as they dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions to UCM and Missouri Western State back in September.
Out shot on the season, Lindenwood saw junior Kat Roe (21 shots; five goals) have a rare hat trick in a 3-2 win over Mo West last weekend. Junior Becky Roberts (12 shots, four goals) is another Lion to watch.
Two newcomers have played in goal, led by freshman Lauren Greenstein (1.80 GAA, 17 saves, 4-0-1 record). In 2015, UNK and LWU tied 1-1 in Kearney. The Lions scored in the 81st minute to send the game into extra time.
The Lopers (4-2-1) are 1-1-1 in true road games this year. They have been solid through eight games in the first half, outscoring the opponent 3-2 and having twice as many corners, 16-8.
Lincoln sophomore
Tori Weber (11) leads in shots but five other Lopers have between five and eight. Showing even more balance is that six different players have UNK's six goals.
Defensively, Kearney High graduate
Molly Willis (740 minutes) has yet to come out of a game. Other stalwarts include junior
Marika Van Brocklin (668), sophomore
Kelsie Ienn (644), Weber (628) and freshman
Megan Merkel (592).
Next weekend, Mo West and Northwest Mo come to town.
