Quick Start Powers UCO

Kearney, Neb. – The ninth-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos got out to an early lead to beat second-ranked Nebraska-Kearney, 22-16, Friday night in Edmond.

This is the Lopers (13-5, 2-1) first MIAA loss in two years. With the win, UCO (13-0, 2-0) remains unbeaten in duals and pushes its win streak to 20 in a row.

UCO used a pair of decisions to start the night and get out to a 6-0 lead. A third period escape and a last second takedown by Blake Daupin provided the winning margin over second-ranked Bryce Shoemaker (Baldwin City, Kan) at 133 pounds. Veteran Zac D'Amico started things with a last minute escape to win at 125 pounds, 3-2.

Later, senior Joshua Ailey recorded a major at 141 pounds and fourth-ranked Greg Wilson recorded a first period fall at 197 pounds.

UNK head to Colorado next weekend to face Western State and CSU-Pueblo.
