Amanda Alvarez
Kearney, Neb. – The Central Oklahoma Bronchos won the last four singles matches, three in three sets, to edge Nebraska-Kearney, 6-3, Friday evening in Grand Island.

This MIAA dual was set for Harmon Park but moved indoors to the G.I. Racquet Center due to cold temperatures.

In a battle of teams ranked in the top seven in the Central Region, UCO (5-5, 1-0) won the nearly six-hour match thanks to three set wins at number four, five and six singles.

Senior Sthefani Rodriguez (Venezuela) and sophomore Sherry Sun (China) won 8-5 at number two doubles to give the Lopers a 2-1 lead. Junior Amanda Alvarez (Spain), ranked ninth in the region, rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three singles to make it 3-1.

However, the 'Chos won at No. 1 and 2 singles by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores to tie things up and then the three set victories began. In each of these matches, UNK won the second set but then dropped the third by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 10-8.

Both UNK teams hit the road next weekend, facing Washburn and Emporia State.
