Jennies Take Delayed Double Dip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Central Missouri Jennies used a two-run homer from designated player Jordan Johnson to win game one, 4-3, and then erupted for 10 runs over the final two innings to win the night cap, 11-3, over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon in Warrensburg.

This MIAA doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday but pushed back a day due to weather

In game one, UCM (17-16, 7-1) scored single runs in the second and third innings to erase a 1-0 Loper lead. A double, sac bunt and an RBI single by third baseman Alex Leonhart (1 for 2) put the Jennies up for good.

UCM padded its lead the next inning when two-hole hitter Johnson belted her first dinger of the season. Overall, the Jennies out hit the Lopers by just a 7-4 margin.

Colorado junior Meg Housholder again went the distance, allowing four earned on those seven hits, three walks and one hit batter. She also fanned three in throwing 129 pitches. At the plate, Papillion freshman catcher Alexis Howe go 2 for 4 from the three-hole with Arizona freshman center fielder Nicole Spykstra having a two-run single in the fifth.

Besides Johnson (Millard South H.S.) and Leonhart, UCM got 2.1 innings of scoreless relief from junior Katie Giacone. She fanned three and gave up just one hit to record her second save.

UNK tried to bounce back by using three hits to grab a 2-0 first inning lead in the second game. The big blow was a two-run double to center by Spykstra (3 for 3).

However, the Lopers were limited to four hits and one run over the final five innings. This time, Johnson (4-3) was in the circle and she settled down and fanned six in throwing 80 pitches.

A RBI ground out by Leonhart (1 for 2) got UCM on the board in the second and they then exploded four fourth in the fifth and six more in the sixth. The fifth featured two UNK errors, leading to three unearned runs, while a "Grand Slam" from cleanup hitter and catcher Allie Dishinger (3 for 4) ended the day. It marked her second homer of the spring.

UNK did see Papillion freshman pitcher and third baseman Sara Sempek go 2 for 3 with two runs and her first career homer. In the circle, she allowed two earned over 4.2 innings.

Weather permitting, the Lopers will be at Lincoln on Tuesday and Lindenwood on Wednesday.
