Lopers Bitten by Bearcats

Kearney, Neb. - Senior Laura Carpenter and sophomore Raegan Edwards scored two goals apiece to help Southwest Baptist down Nebraska-Kearney, 4-0, Friday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.

The Bearcats (1-12-2, 1-8-1) pick up its first win of 2018 while the Lopers (5-10-0, 3-5-0) lose a fourth straight contest. UNK (nine points) remains in sole possession of eighth place in the MIAA; ninth place Washburn (eight points) lost 4-0 to Central Missouri tonight.

Edwards tallied her goals in the 35th and 41st minutes to give SBU a 3-0 halftime lead. She now has a team-best four goals on the fall. Carpenter came in with just three games played but made up for lost time by scoring at 21:58 and 46:41. These were her first two shots of the season.

UNK was out shot by only an 11-10 margin but sophomore keeper Ashlyn Gibbs made five saves to record her first shutout. Having a 3-2 advantage in corners, the Lopers got five shots (three on goal) from Columbus senior Emily Kosch with Omaha senior Caitlin Rerucha having both of her shots be on goal.

Kearney heads to Missouri Southern State on Sunday. The Lions (7-6-2, 3-4-1) were blanked 2-0 by Fort Hays tonight.
