Kearney, Neb. – Junior right handed reliever Kris Priddy threw six scoreless innings to help Henderson State blank Nebraska-Kearney, 3-0, Thursday night in Arkadelphia, Ark.
This game was part of the three-day Henderson State Invitational. The Reddies, who beat UNK by a 7-0 score last February, improve to 2-2 while the Lopers drop to 1-2.
It was a pitcher's duel as the two teams combined for just 14 hits (11 singles) and 20 runners left on base. Each squad stranded 10.
Priddy (1-0), coming in at 5-10, 165 lbs., took over in the top of the fourth and allowed just three hits and a walk the rest of the way. Fanning five, he now has a 1.04 ERA in three appearances (8.2 innings). In 2017, he logged a total of 7.0 innings over six appearances.
Junior lefty
Jeremy Moyer (Prescott, Ariz.) made his first appearance as a Loper, allowing three earned on seven hits, five walks and three wild pitches. Striking out five in 4.2 innings, he gave way to right handers
Thomas Ruwe (Arlington) and
Peyton Pocock (Kearney). They combined to shut out HSU, allowing just a hit and a walk with three K's.
The Reddies tallied single runs in the second, third and fifth innings. Cleanup hitter Jordan Harris, who played center field and started the game on the mound, went 2 for 3 with an RBI with seven-hole hitter Taylor Langston 2 for 3 with a run and RBI.
For UNK, leadoff and junior center fielder hitter
Brett Young (2 for 5) and sophomore second baseman
Calvin Rudolph (2 for 3 with a walk) provided the offense.
On Friday, weather permitting, UNK faces 40th-ranked Arkansas-Ft. Smith (3-0). First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
