No. 40 Arkansas-Ft. Smith Edges the Lopers

Kearney, Neb. – The 40th-ranked Arkansas-Ft. Smith Lions got good production from the top of the order and tallied four unearned runs to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 9-6, Friday evening in Arkadelphia, Ark.

This was day two of the Henderson State Invitational. Weather permitting, UNK (1-3) will face No. 1 Delta (Miss.) State Saturday at noon. The Statesmen are currently 3-1.

UAFS (4-0), from the Heartland Conference, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and never trailed. Leadoff hitter and sophomore right fielder Logan Allen went 3 for 5 with a run and three RBI's with two-hole hitter and senior designated hitter Anthony Seminaris finishing 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI's. The pair accounted for five of the Lions seven RBI's and six of the 13 hits.

Next, from the nine-hole, sophomore catcher Dylan Hurt was 2 for 4 with an RBI while junior lefty Zach Burch allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and no walks. He picked up the win by fanning three and walking none.

After allowing two unearned runs in the second, UNK tied things up in the top of the fourth thanks to a three-run double by redshirt freshman second baseman Pete Carlson (Arvada, Colo.). There was one out when the nine-hole hitter laced one down the left field line.

The two teams were tied at fourth heading into the bottom of the sixth when UAFS tallied a three spot. Six straight Lions reached safely with Allen and Seminaris having RBI's. The Lopers got a two-run homer from sophomore first baseman Ty Roseberry (3 for 4, two runs & two RBI's) in the top of the seventh but UAFS finished the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the inning. An error on a sac bunt loaded the bases and Allen soon followed with a run scoring triple to right.

Besides Roseberry (Kearney), UNK saw Carlson go 3 for 4 with four RBI's while senior catcher Dallas Schramm (Millard North) was 2 for 5 with a run scored. He had two of UNK's four doubles in the game. Finally, senior lefty Bradley Brown (Aurora, Colo.) was the tough luck loser, allowing two earned over five full innings. He fanned five, walked three and gave up seven hits.
