The Beat Goes On ... 17-1

Kearney, Neb. – Junior right fielder Pate Katechis belted a Grand Slam and sophomore first baseman Ty Roseberry hit two home runs as Nebraska-Kearney dismantled Northwest Missouri State, 17-1 (7 innings), Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field.

This was the first of three midweek games with the Bearcats this year. The contest was pushed back a full day due to weather and field conditions.

UNK (14-10, 7-3) has now won eight in a row, the longest win streak in the program since the 2011 team won eight straight between April 21-30. That squad won a school-record 38 games and reached the NCAA Central Regional finals.

To improve to 9-2 on its 14-game home stand, the Lopers pounded out 18 hits including six home runs and two doubles. On the mound, junior righty Alex Achtermann (Denver, Colo.) improved to 2-1 by fanning six and allowing just one run in five innings.

For the third time this home stand, junior center fielder Brett Young (3 for 4, two runs & three RBI's) led off the bottom of the first with a homer. Up 3-1 in the third, UNK saw senior second baseman Scott Platt (2 for 3, three runs) hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the year, to left field.

An eight-run fourth featured six hits including a one-out Grand Slam by Katechis (1 for 3) that banged of the scoreboard. That was his sixth long ball of the year and helped UNK finally get a base knock with the bases full. Coming into today, the Lopers were hitting .167 (7 for 42) with three runners on base.

Next, senior catcher Dallas Schramm (3 for 4, three runs & two RBI's) and Roseberry (Kearney H.S.) hit back-to-back solo shots in the fifth with Roseberry (2 for 4, three runs & three RBI's) adding a two-run homer to left in the sixth. He's now at .450 with nine dingers and 27 RBI's, all team-highs.

Finally, sophomore third baseman Calvin Rudolph (3 for 4, two runs & one RBI) and redshirt freshman Peter Carlson (2 for 4, one run & one RBI) had multi-hit efforts.

UNK host the Lindenwood Lions this weekend at Memorial. Games times are 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon on Sunday.
