Singles Wins Lead to Dual Victory

Kearney, Neb. – The 38th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team won all six singles matches to down Fort Hays State, 7-2, Friday afternoon in Kansas.

The Lopers improve to 13-5 (3-3) while the Tigers fall to 6-8 (1-6).

Senior Amanda Alvarez (Spain) and freshman Zhanel Turarbek (Kazakhstan) won 8-4 at number one doubles but Hays took the other two, allowing just six combined points along the way.

However, UNK won four of the six singles matches in straight sets to pick up the dual win. Freshman Faith Kowalski (Kearney) won 6-0, 6-1 at number six with freshman Claire Neil (Papillion) taking her number five match by a 6-1, 6-0 count.

The Lopers were pushed at number one and three but Turarbek (4-6, 6-1, 10-4) and Alvarez (4-6, 6-3, 10-7) both rallied to win.

UNK is at Missouri Western State on Saturday afternoon.
