Kearney, Neb. – Junior forward Darby Hirsch scored two minutes into overtime to lift the Fort Hays State Tigers to a 1-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon in Kansas.

The Tigers win this non-conference game to improve to 2-2-2- while the Lopers fall to 2-4-0.

With the wind at its back, UNK out shot the Tigers 4-2 over the first 45 minutes but the Tigers had an 11-1 advantage in that area in the second half. Hays also had a 6-2 advantage in corners on the day.

Senior Ali Hirschman (Millard South) came off the disabled list to make eight saves with junior Emily Thuss (Raymore, Mo.) stopping a shot in the first half. Hirschman recorded saves in the 78th and 82nd minute to help force free soccer.

The game-winner came about after true freshman forward Cailey Perkins sent a cross from the right side of the box. Hirsch managed to get a foot on it and put the ball into the back of the net.

Five different Lopers got a shot off in the game including Omaha senior Caitlin Rerucha and Norfolk junior Maddie Love. UNK's last chance to score came in the 49th minute when Tiger keeper Megan Kneefel stopped a shot taken by Omaha senior Ciera Clark.

Kearney heads to Emporia State (4-1-1) next Friday for its final non-con game of 2018.
