Lopers Go 3-0 in Colorado; Minnesota Trip Next

Kearney, Neb. – A young Nebraska-Kearney women's team got its 2018-19 season started over the weekend by winning three duals in Colorado.

The Lopers won at Metro State on Thursday, 5-2, and then beat both Colorado Mesa, 6-1, and Colorado State-Pueblo, 7-0, on Friday in Pueblo. Starting with this year, Division II college tennis moves to Division I scoring rules (i.e. doubles worth one point).

Papillion sophomore Claire Neil went a combined 3-0 playing at No. 5/6 singles with Lincoln freshman Fidan Ibrahimova 3-0 at No. 4/5 singles. Overall, UNK was 15-3 in singles and 8-1 in doubles.

The top Loper doubles team proved to be Chinese senior Yuxiu "Sherry" Sun and Indian freshman Bhavya Ramineni who posted a 3-0 mark playing number one and two. The managed a 9-8 (5) win against Pueblo and an 8-6 win at Metro.

UNK heads to Minnesota this weekend to face the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons (Sat.) and the St. Cloud State Huskies (Sun.). Both duals are slated for a 10 a.m. start.
