Lopers Remain Perfect After Minnesota Wins

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team moved to 5-0 on the season after beating Minnesota State-Moorhead, 4-3, and St. Cloud State, 7-0, on the road this weekend.

UNK's first-ever dual with the MSUM Dragons was a tough one on Saturday morning in Moorhead. The Lopers lost the doubles point but rebounded to take the dual thanks to four singles wins.

Freshmen Fidan Ibrahimova (Lincoln Southeast) and Bhayva Ramineni (India) won in straight sets at number four and five singles, respectively, to give the Lopers a 2-1 lead. Senior Sherry Sun (China) made it three in a row after a 6-4, 6-1 victory from the third spot in the order. After Moorhead won at number six, sophomore Zhanel Turabek (Kazakhstan) clinched things with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at number two.

Things were much easier Sunday morning against the Huskies. UNK allowed only point in doubles and took three singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Two other singles wins saw the Lopers allow just one point.

Through five matches, Kearney is 25-5 in singles and 12-3 in doubles. Both Ibrahimova and Ramineni are 5-0 in singles with the tandem of Sun and Ramineni 5-0 at number two doubles.

The Lopers finish up its fall slate with the annual ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Central Regional in Oklahoma City next weekend.
