Double OT Winner!

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Ciera Clark scored on a header with less than a minute remaining in double overtime to lift Nebraska-Kearney to a 2-1 win over Northeastern State Friday evening at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.

UNK (4-5-0, 2-0-0) picks up its second all-time win over NSU (6-3-0, 0-2-0) and improves to 2-0 in league play for the first time in 2015.

The RiverHawks, coming off a 2-1 loss at Missouri Southern State, tied things up in the 80th minute when Megan Chase banged one in from about 15 yards out. The ball hit the crossbar, bounced down and then up where Loper keeper Allie Prososki (Kearney Catholic) grabbed it. However, officials determined the ball had crossed the goal line. NSU had shots in the 31st and 73rd minutes also bang off the bar but the Loper defense was able to corral those efforts.

Prososki then recorded saves in the 99th, 103rd and 105th minutes to keep things all square. NSU also had two other shots go wide in the overtime periods.

32451UNK's lone extra session shot was the game-winner. After NSU was called for a foul deep in its end, senior Kaitlyn Pawloski (Hastings) lined up for a free kick from the left wing. Her ball was going toward the 'Hawks goal and keeper Brennan Hockett came out to get it. But Clark (Omaha North) beat her to the ball and her diving attempt resulted in a goal from about 10 yards out. Clark now has a team-best three goals this season.

The Lopers were 0-3-12 in its last 15 double OT games. Its last victory was a 1-0 decision over Lindenwood in October 2013.

Senior Emily Kosch (Columbus Scotus) tallied her first career goal in the 26th minute to give UNK the lead. After a corner by sophomore Alex Dayton (Olathe, Kan.) found senior Micheala Hoffman (Fruita, Colo.) on the right wing, she sent the ball into the middle of the box where, in a scrum of players, Kosch managed to knocked it into the back of the NSU net.

On the day, NSU out shot UNK by a 10-8 margin with four of the Loper shots coming in the first 45 minutes. Kearney did have a 4-1 advantage in corners with Prososki making five saves to one for Hockett. Finally, eight different Lopers got off one shot in the game.

Kearney hosts 20th-ranked Central Oklahoma (8-0-0, 1-0-0) Sunday at 2 p.m. The Bronchos were at Fort Hays State Friday night.
