Clark Scores Twice to Spark Rally at Rimrock

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Ciera Clark scored two second half goals and Nebraska-Kearney got off 21 shots to rally past Montana State-Billings, 2-1, Thursday evening in the Rimrock Classic.

The Lopers (1-2-0) opened up last season with a 2-1 home victory over the Yellowjackets (1-1-1). The game was part of the annual Rimrock Classic with men's teams slated to play tomorrow.

"Coming back from a 1-0 down and winning on the road is a great victory. In practice we work on situations like this and talk about staying mentally strong and not giving up," said Loper head coach Chloe Roberts. "Today shows the players are doing exactly what we ask from them."

MSUB, who beat Wayne State by a 2-0 score last weekend in Denver, got on the board just five minutes into the action when junior Amanda Hemmen finished off a corner taken by junior Alexa Iacolucci. The goal came from five yards out and in a lot of traffic.

Both teams had five shots over the first 45 minutes but UNK erupted for 16 in the second half. The 21 shots are tied for the seventh most in program history and mark the third time since 2014 UNK has reached the 20 shot mark.

Clark (Omaha North), a fourth-year Loper, tallied her first collegiate goal in the 59th minute after a mistake by MSUB keeper Lili Delgadillo. Her giveaway allowed Clark to score into an empty net. Less than two minutes later, redshirt freshman Kassidy Kirsch (Rapid City, SD) corralled a loose ball and sent a crossing pass into the box where Clark finished it off with a low shot.

"In the second half we got back to playing our game," said Roberts. "I couldn't be happier for CiCi; she deserves those two goals. Her hard work and dedication to improve all aspects of her game paid off today and there is more to come."

Clark becomes the eighth Loper with two goals in a game; UNK is still waiting for its first-ever hat strick. Clark also took five shots in the win as did Lincoln senior Tori Weber. Next, Kirsch had three and five other Lopers took at least one.

Senior keeper Allie Prososki (Kearney Catholic) finished with five saves and stopped two shots down the stretch to preserve the win.

"Everyone played the part today including the staff. Very proud of everyone involved and we'll keep building," said Roberts.

The Lopers face the Mary Marauders Saturday afternoon. Mary bested Black Hills State, 5-3, in its season opener earlier on Thursday.
