Early PK Holds Up as Kearney Blanks Mary

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Tori Weber converted a penalty kick two minutes into the action and that goal helped up as Nebraska-Kearney downed the University of Mary (N.D.), 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Billings, Mont.

This game was part of the annual Rimrock Classic hosted by Montana State-Billings. UNK (2-2-0) rallied past the host Yellowjackets, 2-1, on Thursday to make this the second 2-0-0 road weekend in program history. Back in 2012 UNK beat both Lindenwood and Truman in MIAA action.

The Lopers got out of the gates fast as Omaha senior Caitlin Rerucha saw her shot attempt blocked at 1:45 and then Hastings senior Kaitlyn Pawloski setup for a corner 40 seconds later. That kick led to the game's lone goal as UM (1-1-0) was called for a foul on a hand ball. Weber (Lincoln SE) banged in the ensuing PK for her fourth career goal.

The Loper defense did the rest against a high scoring Marauder offense. A veteran Mary team beat Black Hills State, 5-3, on Thursday and had its top scorers back from a 12-win team.

Senior keeper Allie Prososki (Kearney Catholic) made four saves to pick up her eighth career solo shutout. Her last save came in the 55th minute as the Loper defenders kept the Mary offense at bay. The Marauders final shot sailed high at the 76th minute mark.

UNK out shot Mary, 11-10, on the day while also having a 4-1 advantage in corners. Rerucha took a team-best three shots with both Weber and Omaha senior Ciera Clark having two. Finally, four position players went all 90 minutes including Pawloski and Bellevue sophomore Megan Cook.

Kearney hosts Washburn next Friday night in a non-conference game. The action begins at 7 p.m.
