Golden Suns Slip Past the Lopers, 4-3

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Teresa Sanchez rallied to win at number two singles to help Arkansas Tech edge Nebraska-Kearney, 4-3, Thursday afternoon in Little Rock. 34881

This dual was originally set to be played outside in Russellville, Ark., but moved up the road and indoors due to weather.

Suffering its second straight 4-3 defeat, the Lopers (7-4) grabbed the doubles point thanks to wins in the top two spots. Senior Camryn Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and freshman Fidan Ibrahimova (Lincoln SE) secured the point with a 6-1 victory at number two. This marked a triumphant return for Parnell who has been sidelined since April 2018.

UNK moved ahead 2-0 in the dual after a straight set win by freshman Vasilisa Polunova (Moscow) at number one singles. However, Ark Tech (3-0) won three of the next four matches to tie things up at three. Ibrahimova was the lone Loper to win in this stretch, a 6-4, 6-2 decision at number four.

Finally, Sanchez dropped the first set, 6-4, to sophomore Zhanel Turarbek (Kazakhstan). She squeaked out a 7-6 win in the second set and then led the majority of the third before winning, 6-4.

The Lopers face the Southern Arkansas Muleriders (5-2) Friday afternoon in Russellville.
