UNK Falls to Southern Ark; Busy Stretch Up Next

Kearney, Neb. – Freshman Vasilisa Polunova won at number one singles and doubles but it wasn't enough as Southern Arkansas beat Nebraska-Kearney, 6-1, Friday afternoon in Russellville, Ark.

The Muleriders improve to 6-2 while the Lopers fall to 7-5.

SAU took the doubles point thanks to a 7-5 decision at number two. Polunova (Moscow) and partner Zhanel Turarbek (Kazakhstan) rolled to a 6-2 win to tie things up at one for a moment. The pair is now 4-3 and on a two-match winning streak.

The 'Riders secured the dual by winning in straight sets at number two through six singles. Polunova got UNK on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Aurora Novati to improve to a team-best 7-4.

The Lopers have three matches next weekend, starting with a home tilt vs. Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday (March 7). That dual has been moved inside to Grand Island and will begin at 8:45 a.m. OBU comes in as the Central Region's ninth ranked squad.
