Spring Break Trip Ends on High Note; Ranked Teams Up Next

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team won five singles matches in straight sets to beat, 6-1, Division III Wisconsin-La Crosse Monday morning in Hilton Head, S.C.

This dual against the Eagles (7-4) wasn't originally on the Lopers (11-8) 2019 schedule but added over the weekend. Thus, UNK ends its annual "Spring Break" trip with a 3-1 record.

UNK outscored UWL 18-4 to easily to take the doubles point. The number one pair of freshman Vasilisa Polunova (Russia) and sophomore Zhanel Turarbek (Kazakhstan) won by a rare 6-0 score to improve to 9-5 in duals.

In singles Polunova won her number one match (6-3, 6-2) with Turarebek not allowing a point (6-0, 6-0) one spot lower in the lineup. Finally, sophomore Claire Neil (Papillion) won 6-0, 6-1 at number six.

The Lopers host No. 11 Central Oklahoma and No. 17 Northeastern State this weekend, weather permitting at Harmon Park.
