UNK Dominates MidAm Naz; Road Trip Continues

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team racked up 28 hits to easily sweep a double header from MidAmerica Nazarene, 9-0 and 12-3, Wednesday evening in Olathe, Kan.

These games weren't originally on UNK's schedule but added over the weekend to help replace a canceled double header at Regis. The Lopers (5-13), now on a three-game winning streak, head over to Lindenwood (11-9, 2-6) on Friday and Lincoln (4-20, 1-7) on Saturday afternoon.

In the early contest, Colorado junior Erin Hallman and Kansas freshman Megan Blake combined on a five-inning perfect game. Hallman won for the second time in three days by facing the minimum of 12 batters over the first four innings. She and Blake both had one strike out as the NAIA Pioneers (3-7) saw just 50 pitches from the Loper hurlers.

UNK scored two in the first, one in the second and six more in the fourth to roll offensively. Freshman sensation Carlee Liesch (Lincoln Pius X) went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI's and belted her third dinger of the spring. Also going deep was senior third baseman Cheyenne Hamilton (Frederick, Colo.) who finished with two runs and two RBI's from the cleanup spot. Finally, junior first baseman Sara Sempek (Papillion) was 2 for 3 with two RBI's.

Missouri sophomore Sarah Handrahan improved to 3-3 by allowing one earned run over 4.0 full innings in game two. She fanned five and surrendered four walks and four hits as UNK scored five in the second to take control.

Liesch (3 for 4, three runs, one RBI) had another big effort as did Missouri junior center fielder Alexis Ray (4 for 4, two runs), Hamilton (3 for 3, three RBI's) and Papillion junior designated player Alexis Howe (3 for 4, three runs). Finally, Colorado sophomore catcher Karlee Arnold hit her second homer of 2019.

In the early going, Liesch is now batting .475 with 17 runs, seven RBI's and a .780 slugging percentage with Sempek batting .400 with nine RBI's and seven runs. Hamilton (15) and Howe (10) are the UNK RBI leaders with six Lopers batting over .315.
