Lopers Down the Lions in Last Trip to St. Charles

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team took advantage of two forfeits and won two singles matches in straight sets to beat Lindenwood, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lopers improve to 12-10 (1-4) while the Lions remain winless on the year (0-8, 0-1). UNK is now 3-4 in matches decided by a 4-3 score.

With LWU already forfeiting at number three, Kearney picked up the doubles point after senior Yuxiu "Sherry" Sun (China) and freshman Fidan Ibrahimova (Lincoln SE) won 6-1 in the second spot. The pair has won four of its last five matches.

UNK pushed its lead to 3-0 as senior Camryn Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) got the credit for the forfeit victory at number six and freshman Pranathi Gannavaram (Lee's Summit, Mo.) won 6-0, 6-4 a spot higher in the lineup. That marks her four straight singles win outside.

The Lions did take three of the next four matches but sophomore Zhanel Turarbek (Kazakhstan), playing at number one in this dual, rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 decision to clinch things. She now has nine wins in duals, two coming in the top spot.

The Lopers head to No. 27 Southwest Baptist on Monday. That dual was originally set for Saturday but moved two days because of weather.
