Lopers Battle But Fall to #30 Northwest

Kearney, Neb. – The 30th-ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats won four singles matches in straight sets to down Nebraska-Kearney, 5-2, Tuesday evening at Harmon Park.

With the regular season winding down Northwest improves to 14-5 (5-3) while the Lopers drops to 13-12 (2-6).

Senior Camryn Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and sophomore Claire Neil (Papillion) improved to 7-0 as a doubles pair after a 7-5 decision at number three. This was their toughest test to date but they tallied the final point to keep the 'Cats from sweeping doubles.

Northwest clinched things by starting 4-0 in singles. However, UNK closed things out with wins by sophomore Vasilisa Polunova (Russia) and freshman Fidan Ibrahimovoa (Lincoln SE). Polunova won a tough battle over Tania Tereuel (7-6, 6-4) in the top spot to improve to 13-9 while Ibrahimova outlasted 72nd-ranked Julia Aliseda in three sets (7-6, 3-6, 7-5) at number four. She now has a team-best 16 singles during the duals season.

UNK hosts Missouri Western State on Monday, April 15, to close out its 2018-19 home slate. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
