Regional Win in Springfield

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team picked up its first win of 2020 by downing Harding, 5-2, Saturday evening in Springfield, Mo.

This was the Lopers (6-1) first dual since last October. They did face UNO in an exhibition match last month.

Harding (3-5) came in ranked fifth in the Central Region with UNK ninth. The Lopers managed the win as they took the doubles point and won two singles matches in straight sets.

Papillion junior Claire Neil won 6-1, 6-1 at number six with junior Zhanel Turarbek winning her number two match by a 6-2, 6-3 count. Turarbek (Kazakhstan) teamed with Anatasia Kuzevanova (Czech Republic) to win at number one doubles, 6-2, with Lincoln junior Fidan Ibrahimova winning in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 7-6; 7-5) at number three singles. She is now one of five Lopers with five singles wins to date.

UNK stays in Springfield to face the Drury Panthers on Sunday.
