Panthers Slip Past the Lopers

Kearney, Neb. – The Drury University Panthers won three close matches to down Nebraska-Kearney, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

The Lopers (6-2), ranked ninth in the Central Region, finish up the weekend 1-1 as they bested Harding (Ark.), 5-2, on Saturday.

Ranked fourth in the Midwest Region, Drury (3-1) took the doubles point thanks to a pair of 7-5 wins at number two and three. Senior Yu-Ning Lee then got by junior Zhanel Turarbek (Kazakhstan) in three sets at number one singles (6-1, 2-6, 6-3) with junior Viktoriya Zheleva having a close win a spot lower in the lineup; 7-6, 6-4.

UNK got on the board when Lincoln sophomore Fidan Ibrahimova won in straight sets at number three singles. She now has a team-best six singles wins.

The Lopers return to the courts on February 28th when they face the Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars. That road dual was just recently added to the schedule.
