Ranked 'Chos Tally Three Goals to Down the Lopers

Kearney, Neb. – Juniors Katie Gasaway and Katy Tullis scored their first goals of the fall, and sophomore Molika McGee added her seventh, to help regionally-ranked Central Oklahoma down Nebraska-Kearney, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster. Field.

The Bronchos (7-2-1, 3-0-1) win a fourth straight game and will likely return to the United Soccer Coaches Association Division II Top 25 this week. UCO is currently ranked seventh in the Central and has been a mainstay of both polls for years.

"They'll definitely finish in the top two in our league. Their a really good team and we knew that coming in," said UNK head coach Chloe Roberts. "We're coming off a nice win over Newman where we went into double overtime so we had some heavy legs today. We tried to rotate as much as possible but that's a quality team. They'll likely be nationally-ranked this week for a reason."

Gasaway tallied her goal at the 12:21 after taking a pass from teammate Taryn Kedzoir. From withing the box she found the left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. Around 14 minutes later, freshman Madison Linavong setup for one of UCO's 14 corners on the day. She sent a ball to the center of the box where McGee headed it in. Finally, Tullis tallied her goal with nine minutes left and after appeared freshman keeper Rainna Daharsh (Gretna) had both hands on the ball. However, the ball fell to the ground after a collision where Tullis knocked it in.

"They caused us a lot of problems but I thought we dealt with that better in the second half once we adjusted a few things. We did have a few chances to make it 2-1 and the game maybe changes a little bit," said Roberts.

Daharash finished with 13 saves including several big ones after the break. She total ties for fourth most in school history and five off the school record (18, Marissa Niday vs. Colo.-Colo. Springs, 10/30/09). Offensively, South Dakota senior Kassidy Kirsch had a breakaway attempt with her shot being stopped by UCO keeper Kaitlyn Asher.

"Super proud of our effort and it's a good learning curve for us to know what the standard is in this conference. Our (large) sophomore class hasn't played a team like UCO before," said Roberts.  "That was really good for Rainna. She made some nice saves … tipped a few over the bar, tipped a few around the post."

Twenty Lopers (2-8, 1-2) took to the pitch with true freshman Angelina Iocca (Old Bridge, NJ) logging a team-best 73 minutes off the bench with redshirt freshman Aspen Brandich (Colorado Springs) at 43. Finally, redshirt sophomore Lily Engeman was one of three in the field to go all 90 minutes.

UNK hosts Northwest Missouri State (5-4-1, 1-1-1) and Missouri Western State (5-3-2, 2-1)next weekend.
