Jennies Take Rare Wednesday Afternoon Games

Kearney, Neb. – Junior first baseman Hailey Schaneman homered twice and junior shortstop Abbie Vodicka pushed her hit streak to 18 straight games but it wasn't enough as Central Missouri swept a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 8-0 (5 innings) and 16-5 (5 innings), Wednesday in Warrensburg.

UNK falls to 9-9 (1-3 MIAA) while the Jennies improve to 8-2 (2-0 MIAA). These games were originally scheduled for Saturday but moved up three full days due to inclement weather in the forecast.

Schaneman (Grand Junction, Colo.) went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI's in the night cap. She belted a two-run homer to left center as part of a four-run fourth and then hit a solo shot to right in the fifth. Schaneman is now tied for second on the team in dingers (four) and is third in RBI's (13).

UCM used 11 hits, including three homers, and took advantage of six errors to score runs in each inning including seven in the first. Redshirt sophomore first baseman and eight-hole hitter Makenzie McAtee went 2 for 3 with a run scored and six RBI's to lead the Jennies. Freshman Sadie Parks tossed a seven-hit complete game in the circle.

Vodicka (Lincoln Pius X) singled in the fourth in game two and smacked a one-out single in the third in game one to keep her streak alive. This is the longest hit streak by a Loper since first baseman/outfielder Anne Manning in 2006 (25 games).

Besides Vodicka, junior center fielder Carlee Liesch went 2 for 2 but UCM scored two in the first, two more in the third and then four in the fifth. Cleanup hitter and junior center fielder Bailey Fowler (3 for 3, two runs & four RBI's) caused the most damage with redshirt freshman Paige Petefish fanning eight in throwing a three-hit complete game.

The Lopers aren't scheduled to play again until March 26 at Emporia State but will likely add four non-conference games before then.
