Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team swept doubles and then came from behind in two singles matches to down Henderson State, 5-2, Friday evening in Russellville, Ark.

The Lopers improve to 3-5 while the Reddies, from the Great American Conference, fall to 2-5. HSU lost to Arkansas Tech, 5-2, earlier in the day; UNK faces the Golden Suns (5-3) Saturday morning.

UNK took the doubles point thanks to scores of 7-5, 6-4, and 6-2. The number one team of Columbian freshman Melisa Becerra and Papillion senior Claire Neil won by two points to improve to 4-4 on the spring.

In singles, Kansas sophomore Brooklyn Hunter swept her match at number four (6-2, 6-4) but the Reddies won the next two matches to make it 2-2. Becerra got the Lopers one point closer by winning in three sets at number one (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) with Missouri junior Pranathi Gannavaram supplying the clincher thanks to a huge rally. She lost a tough first set at number six, 7-6 (8), and trailed 5-1 in the second before storming back to win 7-6 (2). Gannavaram earned her third singles win of 2021 by taking the final set, 6-4.

Finally, Mexican freshman Jazmin Zamorano had a similar comeback as she dropped her first set, 6-3, and was down 4-1 in the second. She scored the final five points to tie things up and then rolled in the third, 10-5.
