Ark Tech Gets Past UNK

Kearney, Neb. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns rallied at number one and two singles to down Nebraska-Kearney, 5-2, Saturday in Russellville, Ark.

ATU improves to 3-6 while UNK drops to 3-6. The Lopers went 1-2 this weekend in Russellville, home to the Golden Suns from the Great American Conference.

UNK won the doubles point thanks to wins at number two, 6-2, and three, 6-4. The two's consisted of freshman Myrzaiym "Mia" Sherikulova (Kyrgyzstan) and sophomore Brooklyn Hunter (Topeka) with the three squad being junior Pranathi Gannavaram (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and freshman Jazmin Zamorano (Mexico). Sherikulova and Hunter now have three wins on the spring. 

Papillion senior Claire Neil then won in straight sets at number five singles (7-6, 6-1) with Sherikulova winning her first set at number two, 6-3, and freshman Melisa Becerra (Colombia) doing the same in the top spot, 6-4. However, ATU graduate transfer Michelle Khoo took the final two sets at number one (6-1, 6-2) with Division I transfer Lea Grinberg doing the same at number two (6-3, 6-1). The Suns then won the other singles matches in straight sets. 

UNK begins MIAA play at home next weekend against Central Oklahoma (Saturday/noon) and Northeastern State (Sunday/11 a.m.). Both matches are slated to be held outside at Harmon Park.
