Splitsville in Missouri Capital

Kearney, Neb. – Junior shortstop Abbie Vodicka went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and four RBI's to help Nebraska-Kearney down Lincoln, 10-1 (5 innings), in the second game of a double header Tuesday in Jefferson City, Mo.

The Blue Tigers (3-8-1) took advantage of some errors to take the first game, 6-5. These contests were the MIAA openers for both and moved up three full days due to expected inclement weather in Missouri this weekend.

From her leadoff spot Vodicka (Lincoln Pius X) had a two-run double in the second and a two-run single in the third. She now has hit safely in all 16 games this spring, the longest hit streak by a Loper since first baseman Kate Ruwe (16) in 2016.  UNK racked up 12 hits, 10 being singles, to score eight runs over the first three innings. The Lopers (9-7) also drew threw walks and took advantage of three Blue Tiger errors.

Junior center fielder Carlee Liesch (Lincoln Pius X), sophomore catcher Katie Gosker (Blair), senior second baseman Kaylee Schutte (Elkhorn H.S.) and junior right fielder Lauren Struebing (Kearney H.S.) had two hits apiece with the bottom of the Loper order going a combined 5 for 6 with seven runs and an RBI. In the circle junior Kelsey Goodban (Lincoln Pius X) moved to 5-2 by tossing a six-hit complete game. She fanned five and walked two in blanking LU over the final four innings.

A four-run Blue Tiger fourth erased a 4-2 deficit in the early game. In the big inning Lincoln had three hits and took advantage of three Loper errors to move ahead for good. Five-hole hitter and third baseman Alivia Rymer (3 for 4, two RBI's) paced a 13-hit attack with senior Shannon Greene picking up a save by throwing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. She got a strikeout and a diving catch by right fielder Ashton Stalling in foul territory to get out of a jam.

Junior third baseman Bri Healy (Omaha Central) hit her team-leading sixth homer of the year in the first and was one of three Lopers with two hits in the loss. Finally, junior Hannah Ice (Escondido, Calif.) and redshirt junior Megan Blake (Clay Center, Kans.) combined for five K's, no walks and just two earned runs in the circle.

UNK heads to Central Missouri tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
