UNK Picks Up First MIAA Win of 2021

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team dominated doubles and won five singles matches in straight sets to defeat Fort Hays State, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at Harmon Park.

The Lopers (4-10, 1-3) earn its first MIAA of the season while the Tigers 3-4 (0-4) are still searching for one. This dual was originally set for Wednesday but pushed back due to weather.

UNK allowed just four combined points in doubles to go up 1-0 on the scoreboard. These were the 14th, 15th and 16th doubles wins of the spring.

In singles the Lopers were equally as dominant as Kansas sophomore Brooklyn Hunter won 6-2, 6-0 at number four with Kyrgyzstan freshman Myrzaiym "Mia" Sherikulova beating her Tiger opponent by a 6-1, 6-0 count one spot higher. Finally, Missouri junior Pranathi Gannavaram rallied from 6-1, 3-0 hole to win at number six (1-6, 7-5, 10-7) in three sets.

The Lopers remain home next weekend to face Washburn and NW Missouri State.
