Rogers Spoils Senior Day

Kearney, Neb. – Junior Andrea Morales recorded her 17th and 18th wins and Rogers State hit four home runs to sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 17-1 and 10-1, Saturday afternoon at Dryden Park.

These were UNK's final home games of the 2021 season. In between games seniors Megan Blake (Clay Center, Kan.), Melissa Gellermann (Grand Junction, Colo.), Shae Muggridge (Western Australia) and Kaylee Schutte (Elkhorn) were honored.

The Hillcats, from Claremore, Okla., improved to 26-13-1 (14-8) and showed why they recently were in the Top 25. Morales pushed her season mark to 18-5 with 18 complete game as she allowed 11 hits in nine overall innings. She also fanned nine and walked just one, pushing her season numbers to 169 K's to 22 walks.

In game one RSU recorded 16 hits and scored four in the first, five in the second and eight in the fifth. They had six doubles and a two-run homer among their base knocks with freshman right fielder Lana Gass (2 for 2, two runs & four RBI's) and senior catcher Abigail Taylor (2 for 4, one run & three RBI's) leading the way.

UNK saw Blair sophomore catcher Katie Gosker belt her team-leading 10th homer of the year in the second, a shot that hugged the left field line. She then went 2 for 2 in the second game.

Rogers used an eight-run second to break a 1-1 tie in the nightcap. They hit a pair of three-run homers in the big inning including one from nine-hole hitter and shortstop Sabrina Anguiano. Three-hole hitter and left fielder Makayla Bowman (2 for 3, two runs & four RBI's) also had a big effort.

Besides Gosker, Lincoln junior Kelsey Goodban threw a scoreless fifth with the top four hitters in the lineup each collecting a hit.

UNK finishes up the regular season next weekend with games at No. 16 Central Oklahoma and Newman.
