Bluejays Fly By the Lopers; Tigers on Tap

Kearney, Neb. – Junior Pranathi Gannavaram and freshman Jazmin Zamorano picked up a win at number three doubles but the Creighton Bluejays took the other seven matches to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 7-0, Friday afternoon in Omaha.

The Lopers fall to 3-10 while the Bluejays improve to 8-5. This was UNK's fourth match against a D1 team in recent years, following duals vs. South Dakota State (2018 and 2016) and Texas-El Paso (2017).

Gannavaram (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Zamorano (Mexico) improved to 4-5 as a pair thanks to a 6-3 decision over seniors Laura Higueras and Erin Epperson. However, CU allowed six combined points in the other two matches to win the doubles point.

In singles, Creighton took each battle in straight sets. Colombian freshman Melisa Becerra put up the toughest fight, falling to sophomore Kate Krueger at number one by a 6-3, 6-4 score.

UNK hosts the rival Fort Hays State Tigers tomorrow at Harmon Park. That dual was scheduled for Wednesday but moved back due to inclement weather. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
