Washburn Wins MIAA Opener

Kearney, Neb. – Six different players scored to help the Washburn Ichabods down Nebraska-Kearney, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in Topeka.

This was the MIAA opener for both. The 'Bods, who beat UNK 2-0 last Friday at Cope Stadium in a non-MIAA game, improve to 5-1-1 while the Lopers fall to 1-7-0.

For the second straight contest UNK kept things scoreless over the first 30 minutes. WU keeper Raegan Wells and the WU defense was on its heels early as the Lopers had four shots on goal over the first 25 minutes. However, Wells stopped each shot with senior Olivia Harriger finding pay dirt at 31:16. The 'Bods then scored six and 11 minutes later to lead by three at the break.

Los Angeles senior Perla Navarro tacked on a goal in the 70th minute to get the Lopers on the board. After Lincoln redshirt freshman Jacylan Doering stole the ball, Navarro took a pass and scored from a crowded box. Overall, UNK had seven shots on goal with Navarro taking two and Kansas redshirt sophomore Cammie Davis having one plus two more that went wide. Finally, Gretna freshman Rainna Daharsh had three saves in her second collegiate start with Colorado freshman defender Dolcie Hanlon the lone Loper field player to go all 90 minutes.

UNK hosts Newman (0-5-1, 0-1-0) and Central Oklahoma (5-2-1, 1-0-0) next weekend at Cope Stadium.
