Lopers Beat the Eagles, Fall to the Mountain Lions

Kearney, Neb. – Five different players knocked in two runs to help Nebraska-Kearney get past Chadron State, 12-7, Saturday night in Lubbock, Texas.

This game was part of the three-day Visit Lubbock Collegiate Classic. UNK (2-2) lost to Colorado-Colorado Springs, 4-2, earlier on Saturday. They finish the weekend with a Sunday morning affair against Colorado Christian (6-2).

The Lopers never trailed the Eagles (0-3) as they pounded out 13 hits, drew four walks, scored four in the third and five more in the fifth. In the circle, Colorado newcomer Stacy Bott and Lincoln senior Kelsey Goodban combined for eight strikeouts and blanked CSC in four innings.

Collecting two RBI's were California freshman shortstop Sydney Thomason, senior first baseman Hailey Schaneman, Blair sophomore catcher Katie Gosker, Omaha sophomore left fielder Abbie Jo Gaube and Omaha senior right fielder Bri Healy. Gosker and Healy homered in the fifth and were two of the five Lopers to have two hits apiece. Finally, Lincoln freshman designated player Lyndsey Roth drew three walks.

Thomason went 2 for 3 and scored a run against UCCS (2-2) as the Lopers tallied runs in the first and second innings to take the lead. However, the Mountain Lions tallied all four of its runs in the fifth with the big blow being a three-run homer by first baseman Peyton Reisman (2 for 3). It came with one in and two down.

Junior righty Gabrielle Cronin earned the win by fanning four and working around five hits and three walks in six full innings. Colorado southpaw Madison Rosenthal was the tough luck loser as she struck out a career-best eight and tossed four shut out innings.
