UNK Beats GAC Preseason Favorite

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team dominated the Harding (Ark.) University Bison, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

The Lopers improve to 4-1 while HU, from the Great American Conference, fall to 1-2. They lost to Drury, 4-3, on Friday; UNK and the DU Panthers (1-0) square off Sunday morning.

UNK easily beat a Harding squad picked to win the GAC this spring. The Lopers allowed a combined eight doubles points and then took five of the six singles matches.
Sophomore Myrzaiym "Mia" Sherikulova (Kyrgyzstan) had the toughest singles battle, getting past Romane Britt in three sets (7-6, 2-6, 6-3) at number three. She teamed with freshman Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) to win 6-1 at two doubles. Ranaivo took her number two singles matches in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).

Finally, sophomore Melisa Becerra got past Grace Dodd (7-6, 6-3) at number one singles and also bested Dodd at one doubles (6-4). Her partner was sophomore Jazmin Zamorano (Mexico).
