Lopers Record Big Win Against the Panthers

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis capped a great weekend by sweeping Drury, 7-0, Sunday morning in Springfield, Mo.

The Lopers (5-1) beat Great American Conference preseason favorite Harding (Ark.), 6-1, on Saturday and then dominated Drury (1-1), one of the top teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, today. DU had taken the last eight duals with UNK (2014-21) and this may be the Lopers first-ever win over the long-time D2 power.

While the Panthers won at number three doubles, UNK allowed just five points in the other two matches to grab the team point. In duals, the Lopers are now 15-3 in doubles with three different pairs at 3-0.

Freshman Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) had a big win at number two singles as she upset 43rd-ranked Ewa Samberger (7-6, 6-4). She is now 6-0 in duals as is freshman Masha Hatouka (Belarus). She won in straight sets at number six, as did sophomore Melisa Becerra (Colombia) in the top spot.

Finally, sophomore Mia Sherikulova (Kyrgyzstan) and Jazmin Zamorano (Mexico) and freshman Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.) each rallied to win their matches in three sets. Sherikulova took her third set 12-10, Zamorano won her final two sets by identical 6-4 scores with Bernthal allowing just three points over the final two sets at number five.

UNK heads to Sioux Falls next Friday night to face 16th-ranked Augustana (4-0).
