UNK Falls to Two Nationally-Ranked Squads

Kearney, Neb.  – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team fell to No. 15 Oklahoma Christian, 8-0, and No. 28 Harding (Ark.), 9-7, Friday in Oklahoma.

The games are part of the three-day tournament hosted by OC and Central Oklahoma at various sites around the Oklahoma City area. The Lopers (2-5) face Arkansas Tech and Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon.

The OC Eagles (8-2) scored runs in each of the first four innings and saw nine different players record a hit to win in five innings. Junior Kali Crandall also improved to 5-1 on the year as she fanned four and allowed three hits in four innings of work.

The Lopers were poised to upset the Bison (9-3) but HU tallied five in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 7-4 deficit. Earlier, UNK held leads of 2-0 and 4-1. The faithful sixth featured three Bison doubles and a Loper error and wild pitch. Three different Harding players collected two hits apiece including three and four-hole hitters Nicole Shano and Leigha Harris.

UNK broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the sixth when Lincoln freshman right fielder/designated player Lyndsey Roth belted a two-out, two-run homer to center. Kearney senior third baseman Avery Wood added an RBI double with Omaha redshirt junior center fielder/designated player Bri Healy and California freshman shortstop Sydney Thomason combining for four hits, two runs scored and two RBI's. Finally, Colorado sophomore lefty Madison Rosenthal allowed one earned run over the first three innings.
