UNK Weathers the Crimson Storm, 7-3

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Kelsey Goodban threw five shut out innings and senior first baseman Hailey Schaneman knocked in four runs to help Nebraska-Kearney win at Southern Nazarene, 7-3, Saturday evening in Bethany, Okla.

This was day two of the OC/UCO Tournament in the Oklahoma City area. UNK (3-6) fell to Arkansas Tech, 12-2 (5 innings), earlier on Saturday. The Lopers close out the trip on Sunday against Southern Arkansas (4-7) in Piedmont, Okla.

Goodban (Lincoln Pius) limited the SNU Crimson Storm (2-10) to just three base runners over the first five innings. She moved to 2-2 by fanning four, walking one and scattering nine hits in 6.2 innings. SNU's Jennifer Romero-Ivarson was tough early on, having three shut out innings, but the Loper offense tallied three in the fourth, one in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

From the clean up spot, Schaneman (Grand Junction, Colo.) was 2 for 4 and had a bases clearing double in the sixth. Next, redshirt junior center fielder Bri Healy (Omaha Central) was 2 for 3 with two RBI's from the eight hole with senior right fielder Carlee Liesch (Lincoln Pius) going 2 for 4 with a run scored. SNU was paced by leadoff hitter Liana Heshiki (3 for 3, one RBI) and Romero-Ivarson (4.0 IP, three K's & two earned runs).

The ATU Golden Suns (9-5) scored four times in the first and third innings to take the early game. Tech hit four homers with junior first baseman Makenzie Goins having one and going 1 for 1 with three runs and three RBI's. Junior left fielder Tymber Riley (2 for 2, three runs & two RBI's) and senior pitcher Maddy Prough (4.0 IP, four K's, two earned runs) also had strong efforts.

For UNK, Lincoln freshman designated player Lyndsey Roth went yard for a second straight game and Lincoln senior second baseman Abbie Vodicka was 2 for 3 with a run from the lead off spot.
