Muleriders Get the Win Sunday in Piedmont

Kearney, Neb. – The Southern Arkansas Muleriders held off Nebraska-Kearney, 4-2, Sunday afternoon in Piedmont, Okla.

This was the third and final day of the OC/UCO Festival in the Oklahoma City era. UNK (3-7) picked up a win Saturday afternoon in Bethany over Southern Nazarene.

On a windy day in the OKC area, the Muleriders, from the Great American Conference (GA), bested Fort Hays State, 3-2, earlier on Sunday and improve to 7-8 overall and 4-3 vs. the MIAA. They took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third thanks to two singles, two Loper errors and a wild pitch. All three runs came after the first two batters were put out. Two innings later, a triple and sac fly in foul territory brought homer another 'Rider.

Right fielder Carlee Liesch (Lincoln Pius) and center fielder Bri Healy (Omaha Central) had RBI singles in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, with freshman pinch her Leah Jurgens (Crete H.S.) scoring the run in the seventh. She reached base thanks to a double. Finally, both Liesch and Healy had two hits with senior Kelsey Goodban (Lincoln Pius) and sophomore Madison Rosenthal (Johnstown, Colo.) combining to allow one earned run. 

Weather permitting, UNK heads to Topeka next Saturday and Sunday for back-to-back double headers.
